What Is an Overlay Carriage House Garage Door?
An overlay carriage house door adds a separate layer of decorative trim on top of a solid steel door. Because the trim sits above the surface, it creates real depth and shadow lines that stamped doors cannot match, giving the door a more handcrafted look. It still operates as a standard overhead door.
The Amarr Carriage Court uses four-layer construction: a 1-3/8" insulated steel section topped with 5/8" composite overlay trim. The composite is made from reclaimed wood fiber and thermoplastic polymer and is designed to resist rot, decay and fungal growth.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between overlay and stamped carriage house doors?
Stamped doors have the design pressed into the steel. Overlay doors like the Amarr Carriage Court add a separate layer of composite trim on top, which creates deeper shadow lines and a more handcrafted, wood-like appearance.
Will the composite overlay rot or warp like wood?
The Carriage Court overlay is made from reclaimed wood fiber and thermoplastic polymer and is designed to resist rot, decay and fungal growth, so it does not need the upkeep of a real wood door.
Is the Carriage Court insulated?
Yes. The steel section uses 1-3/8" polystyrene insulation with an R-value of 6.48, which helps with temperature control and reduces outside noise.
Can I mix door and overlay colors?
Yes. Carriage Court is offered in two-tone combinations such as Sandtone with White overlay, Almond with White overlay, or Black with Black overlay.
What hardware is available?
Optional decorative handles and hinges include Blue Ridge, Alpine, Canterbury and Versailles styles.
How long does installation take?
Most installations are completed in one day, including removal of the old door, balancing, and full safety testing.
